The Morrie Evans Wing (MEW) is a Commonwealth funded residential aged care facility which was officially opened on 11th June 1978 by Dr. Wilder Chairman of the Hospital and Charities Commission. Also on this day Mr. T. C. Trewin M.L.A announced the name of the building – the Morrie Evans Nursing Home in honour of Mr Morris Evans M.B.E. Mr. Evans was heavily involved in the establishment of the Benalla and District Memorial Hospital. He was a strong community advocate and proudly served his community over a 35 year period commencing on the 14th November 1944 and finishing on the 29th November 1979 when he resigned his position as President of the BDMH Board of Management (BOM).
