Charles Young Residential Care Centre is in southern metropolitan Adelaide (approx 11 kms from the city centre) near the Morphettville racecourse and a short drive from the Glenelg foreshore and Marion shopping centre. Public transport is only a five minute walk away. The site is home to one hundred and fifty seven residents. One hundred and nineteen residents have single rooms and thirty eight have twin share rooms. The large well-designed bedrooms all have ensuite bathrooms. Residents at Charles Young are encouraged to personalise their rooms in consultation with staff. Each bed has access to telephone and TV antenna sockets and an individually controlled air-conditioning unit. Features of the centre Scattered throughout the residence are small thoughtfully furnished lounges and dining areas and some of these can be booked for private family occasions. The landscaped gardens including shaded areas are also enjoyed by residents and their guests. The rose garden is particularly beautiful in summer. Lifestyle program The lifestyle program at the centre is diverse and includes individual and group activities and outings which can be managed using the facility bus. A coffee shop serves drinks and light snacks and there is a hairdressing salon. Residents in the secure area have a dementia-specific lifestyle program designed for their particular needs. Residents requiring palliative care are able to spend private quality time with relatives who in consultation with staff can stay overnight.
